Xanthos – Saklıkent – Patara Tour (3-in-1)
This route begins in the political capital of the Lycian Federation, advances into the heart of nature, and ends at one of the oldest parliament buildings in the world and a magnificent sandy beach. It is one of the region’s most popular tour programs and is generally known as the “3-in-1” tour.
Tour Itinerary
1st Stop: Ancient City of Xanthos (Capital of Lycia)
Our first stop is Xanthos, a UNESCO World Heritage Site also known as the “City of Sorrows.”
Significance:
Xanthos was the administrative and religious center of the Lycian Federation. It is famous for its tragic history, as its people are said to have chosen mass suicide twice rather than surrender.
Highlights:
Harpy Tomb (the original is in the British Museum)
Lycian pillar tombs
Ancient theater
Basilica ruins decorated with mosaics.
2nd Stop: Saklıkent Canyon (Nature & Adventure)
After history, it is time for nature. Saklıkent Canyon offers an unforgettable experience among towering rock walls and icy waters.
Canyon hike: Walk through the first sections of this 18-kilometer-long canyon, crossing refreshing cold waters.
Optional Activities:
For those seeking more adrenaline, activities such as inflatable boat rides (floating in an inflatable boat) or ziplining may be available near the canyon exit.
Lunch: Lunch is usually served on wooden platforms built over the river; here, you can enjoy trout or local appetizers accompanied by the coolness of the water.
3rd Stop: Ancient City of Patara and Patara Beach
The final part takes place in Patara, combining history and pure relaxation.
One of the oldest parliament buildings in the world: The restored Parliament Building (Bouleuterion), the democratic center of the Lycian Federation, is one of the must-see places.
Sea and sand dunes: After visiting the ancient city, enjoy swimming at Patara’s endless 12-kilometer-long beach.
Sunset (if timing permits):
If your schedule allows, watching the sunset from Patara’s famous sand dunes makes the day unforgettable. (Some desert scenes from classic Turkish cinema were filmed here.)
